NMA To Honour Fiberesima, Abam
As part of its 62nd Annual General Meeting, the Rivers State Chapter of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has concluded plans to honour two prominent past leaders of the body, Dr Deinma Fiberesima and Dr. Claribel Abam.
State Chairman of the NMA, Prof. Chizundu Alikor, while briefing newsmen, Monday, in Port Harcourt, on the Association’s week-long activities, said the two former chairpersons played huge roles to reposition the association, and, therefore, were worthy of honour.
According to Prof. Alikor, the late Dr. Fiberesima, who was onetime Commissioner for Health, introduced policies and programmes that impacted on the health sector in the State.
He recalled that aside his professional achievements, Dr. Fiberesima left huge imprints as a man with integrity, focus, and was transparent.
In this light, he hinted that a memorial lecture is being organised in memory of Fiberesima to sustain his legacies and chart course for the health sector.
The NMA is also organising reception for Dr. Abam, who was onetime Chairperson of Medical Women Association in Rivers State.
Abam would be honoured today, while the body’s Annual General Meeting and sports activities is to feature tomorrow.
Friday is slated for elections and the commissioning of the association’s first Indoor Health and Fitness Centre, a project the outgoing executives completed during its tenure.
New executives of the body would be sworn in on Saturday with an official handover ceremony by the outgoing exco.
Prof. Alikor stressed that “this last two years have been eventful for us and we have been able to implement welfare and set structures for building a lifestyle for the NMA in Rivers State.”
