Water Producers Plan Increase In Price Of Table Water
Barring any change in decision, the price of table water will certainly increase in Rivers State.
Chairman of Water Producers Association of Nigeria (WAPAN), Mr Odiri Macson, disclosed this in a telephone interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt.
Macson said the planned increase was being necessitated by cost of production of table waters.
According to him, “If we are to remain in business, certainly price of water must go up”
He particularly said apart from high cost of production materials, even diesel is beyond the reach of water producers.
Macson said final decisions will be taken during a meeting of the association holding first week of August 2022.
WAPAN chairman specifically said plastic bottled water will add 20 to 30 percent to its present price while sachet water which presently sells at N250 per bag will be maintained.
He commended the state government for the programme so far put in place to improve the quality of water being consumed in the state, stressing that despite the effort of some people to thwart government effort in this direction, the policy is working well.
The association’s Chairman also called for the reappointment of the immediate past Commissioner Water Resources and Rural Development, Dr Tamunosisi Gogo-Jaja, saying he has done so much to improve the quality of water production in the state.
He also told The Tide that water is now getting to all nooks and crannies of the state, while membership of the association has also increased.
Meanwhile, Director General of the Port Harcourt Water Corporation, Chief Ibibia Walter, said the Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor water project is on course.
He said this in an interview with a Radio station in Port Harcourt.
