Flooding: Association Wants Farmers To Be On Alert
Rivers State Chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has called on farmers in the state to be on red alert following the prediction of fast flooding this year in the state.
Chairman of the association, Chief Ofimaobari Igwe said this in an exclusive interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt.
Igwe said the warning has become necessary as farmers have been at the receiving end during yearly flooding in the state.
He said farmers need to be on guard so as to avoid being caught up in the disaster.
According to him, for the past years, farmers have always lost their crops to flooding and there has been no support from any quarters.
“I want them to be on red alert. They should watch out for the flood this year.
“They should harvest as soon as they see any sign”, he said.
He also called on government to come to the aid of farmers by providing loans and making inputs available for farmers in the state.
On the forthcoming election, the AfAN chairman called on farmers across the state to participate actively in the ongoing voters registration exercise so as to enable them vote for candidates of their choice during the election.
Igwe also called on farmers yet to register with the association to do so without delay.
