NUJ Honours Retirees, As GM, Others Pay Tribute

The Tide Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has honoured four of its retired members and commended them for their services.
Speaking at a send-forth party, yesterday, the General Manager of Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, publishers of The Tide, Chief Ernest Chinwo, represented by Acting Chairman, Editorial Board/Supervising Editor, Mr Nelson Chukwudi, extolled the virtues demonstrated by the retiring staff, and said they would be missed.
Chinwo urged them not to see their retirement as end of life, but to utilise opportunities available to showcase their talents in order to make a living.
He commended The Tide NUJ Chapel for organising the event while hinting that the corporation would soon honour deserving staff as well.
In their goodwill messages, Acting Chairman, Editorial Board/Supervising Editor, Mr. Nelson Chukwudi, said he was elated that the retirees were leaving strong and healthy, and wished them well in their future endeavours.
Acting Editor, Mr Reward Akwu, said he was saddened by the exit of some of his revered colleagues, who he recalled had been an inspiration and motivators in the past.
Akwu noted that their retirement would leave a vacuum in the corporation, but expressed the hope that the future was still bright for them.
Also speaking, the Group News Editor, Mr. Boye Salau, said it was difficult to forget the friendship forged over the years, as he described the retirees as talented and exceptional professionals in their various positions.
Responding on behalf of the retirees, Mr. Arnold Alalibo, said he still feels a sense of nostalgia over his stay as a young staff years back.
Alalibo stated that The Tide provided him the platform of growth, as he rose through the ranks until he left the service.
The former Op-Ed/Features Editor of The Tide thanked staff, the NUJ and the management for their love and support over the years.
Earlier, Chairman of NUJ, The Tide Chapel, Comrade Akujobi Amadi, said the send-forth has become an annual ritual to appreciate members who have served.
Amadi urged the retirees to forge on with life, while assuring them of the union’s goodwill and support anytime.
The ceremony witnessed goodwill messages, presentation of gifts, dances and prayers.
The retirees include, Chief Okwein Parker, Arnold Alalibo, Chris Oluoh, and Ibelema Jumbo.

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.

This commendation was contained in a press release made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt.

According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style. She urged civil servants across the state to remain supportive of the governor’s administration in order to sustain good governance and effective public service delivery.

Speaking on behalf of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, Dr. Brown congratulated Governor Fubara on the occasion of his 51st birthday, describing him as “a Governor who leads by serving.”

She further praised the governor’s service-driven and people-centred leadership approach, noting that it has significantly contributed to institutional stability and improved efficiency within the state’s public service. Special appreciation was expressed for the approval of a befitting accommodation complex for Permanent Secretaries, which she said reflects the governor’s commitment to staff welfare and enhanced productivity.

As part of activities to mark the governor’s birthday, the Body of Permanent Secretaries announced the sponsorship of 329 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students across the state.

A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.

The Body of Permanent Secretaries wished Governor Fubara continued good health, divine wisdom, and greater accomplishments in his service to the people of Rivers State.
