APGA Former National Chairman Returns, Dumps APC
The pioneer National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA), Chief Chekwas Okorie, has returned to the party.
Chief Okorie who was welcomed back in Enugu on Wednesday by the National Chairman of APGA, Chief Edozie Njoku and the members of the party’s National Working Committee assured to rebuild the party.
He said “this is a special day in the history of Igbo land and Nigeria and we are back to the party to rebuild and restructure our party.”
The Tide source reports that Chief Okorie left the APGA some years ago following irreconcilable differences with the then leadership of the party under Senator Victor Umeh and formed the United Progressives Party, (UPP) from where he later defected to the All Progressives Congress, (APC).
He described APGA as the only political party in Nigeria established on the provision of true federalism, self determination of all the ethnic groups in Nigeria and devolution of power.
“New dawn has beckoned for APGA. I am happy to come back home, APGA is our own and we must make sure it continues to wax stronger always”’ he said.
He expressed confidence in the new APGA leadership to reconcile all aggrieved members, stressing that “ we must bring back all our aggrieved members and restore peace back to our great party.
“We must also work with all APGA leaders including Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo to make sure they succeed in their quest of developing our dear country”.
Speaking on why he left APGA, Okorie said “We did not just run away as we tried our best to restore peace and save the party when the trouble started but all efforts were frustrated.
“I want to assure that all APGA candidates will be helped to win their elections”.
Chief Okorie said he formally resigned as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the 26th of May “and i am back to the party I belong to”.
In his address, Chief Edozie Njoku, National Chairman of APGA, said all efforts have been concluded to bring back all members who left the party.
“Today we are here to welcome our founding Chairman because we can never be at rest if we didn’t bring him back and I want to assure that many other members who are displeased and upset will come back to the party,” he said.

LP Crisis: Ex-NWC Member Dumps Dumps Abure Faction
Mr Ojukwu, who recently returned to the interim National Working Committee led by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, noted that the party had 34 elected members in the House of Representatives, eight Senators, and 80 members at the state Houses of Assembly after the 2023 general elections.
“Now we lost all of them,” he said. “I don’t think we have as many as five members in the National Assembly.”
The former national officer of the LP talked to journalists in Abuja and said he chose to join the caretaker committee led by Senator Nenadi-Usman because they are now the officially recognized leaders of the Party.
“I chose to work with the caretaker committee to help save the Labour Party, for the benefit of the party. I also want to use this chance to ask my colleagues at the national, state, and local government levels to come together and help rebuild our party.
“Another election is around the corner. We lost everything we have. They have left to other political parties. So I’ll reach out to all my friends in the other group to get together and work on making this party stronger again.
“The caretaker committee has formed a reconciliation committee. Let’s come together and talk so that we can restore the first opposition political party in Nigeria.”
Mr Ojukwu, who was part of the Julius Abure’s group, said there are no more factions in the LP.
He added, “There is a court ruling, and since it is valid, the right people are in the correct positions.”
He urged Barr Abure and others to drop the legal cases they have filed because they are not helping the party.
“Litigations are killing political parties”, he said. “They’ve seen many political parties disappear because of legal battles, and the Labor Party is losing support every day, which makes me feel sad.”
Mr Ojukwu said he did not think joining the Senator Nenadi-Usman’s NWC was a betrayal of the Abure group, describing himself as “the oxygen” of that faction.
“I’m with this group because of the verdict. But I never betrayed anybody. Rather, I was betrayed,” he added.
