No Room For Cultism, Exam Malpractice -Rector
The Rector of Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Dr. Ledum Gwara, says vices such as cultism and examination malpractices will not be condoned in the institution under his leadership.
Lamenting that these and other vices have taken too much grip of students in the past, the Rector stressed the need for students to be disciplined, knowing the core reasons they came to school.
Gwara, who made the daclaration during a joint meeting with the institution’s chapters of the Students Union Government (SUG) and National Union of Rivers State (NURS), said no student should constitute a threat to his fellow students.
“Marginalisation and intimidation of fellow students by other students will not be encouraged in my reign”, he said.
In his response, the SUG President, Comrade Tamyienge Destiny Konwi, applauded the Rector for taking measures to ensure and enhance security and discipline for the student community.
He noted that as a union, they are deeply concerned about the welfare of the students, and hence prepared to take all necessary measures at will to ensure the welfare and peaceful co-existences of student in the school, in line with rules and regulations of Management of the institution.
Konwi used the opportunity to state the discomfort warranted by the epileptic power supply in the campus, saying it has affected the students in their studies.
”Students no longer read comfortably and as long as they would want to, due to the poor power supply in the campus”, he said.
He urged the Rector to use his good offices to ensure more regular provision of electricity in the institution.
