RSU Harps On Training, Retraining Of Staff
The management of the Rivers State University (RSU) has said that it is committed towards the development of its manpower through regular training and retraining.
Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Nlerum Okogbule, said this while declaring open a workshop for senior non-academic staff of the university.
Okogbule said changing trend in the world has underscored the need for people to be active in their role and responsibilities particularly within their environment.
“The world is moving and the world is dynamic and we need to ensure that staff actually imbibe the culture of dynamism in their work function,” he said.
The Vice Chancellor also said the management is desirous of ensuring the staff work in accordance with the ethics of the university.
According to him, “ for the non-academic staff, it is important for them to shun some of the unethical conducts that are in general society. “But by the grace of God in the university system here, I have a very good relationship with the staff and they are working very well and also complying with the ethical standard system in the university,” he said.
Okogbule reiterated that the workshop was underpinned by a realisation of the importance of training and retraining of the workforce to achieve the goals of the university.
He also told the trainees that the workshop was aimed at equiping them with the capacity and capability to be able to carry out their job in a dynamic and rapidly changing society since there has been a tremendous transformation of the social, economic and political structure of society manifested in changes in several fields of human endeavour, it becomes imperative for university workers to reappraise their roles and restrategise on how best to carry out their duties in the 21st century,” he said.
Speaking with newsmen, the Director, Quality Assurance in the university, Professor Eric Amadi said, staff of the institution needed to rise to current changes in the work environment.
