NBA Joins Forces To Sanitise The Judiciary
The Nigerian Bar Association, (NBA) has said that it is joining forces with the Nigerian Judicial Council (NUJ) to ensure that the Judiciary is sanitised of corrupt officials.
Chairman of the NBA, Port Harcourt Branch, Prince Nyekwere, who disclosed this to journalists on Friday, shortly on arrival from Abuja where he attended the NBA National Executive Council meeting, noted that monetary inducement had led some judicial officers astray.
He said such inducement had resulted in numerous conflicting court orders and judgements, pointing out that conflicting court judgements and orders were wrong.
“I am coming from the NBA National Executive Council meeting. You know that lawyers are involved in that, even our own members.
“We have already filed a petition against them before the Legal Profession Disciplinary Committee for action.
“Our intention is to sanitise the system, and we are serious about this. Courts of coordinate jurisdiction are not supposed to give conflicting court orders and judgements.
“I am sure that the NJC will take appropriate action against any judicial officer that is involved in giving conflicting court orders and judgements”, Nyekwere said.
The NBA Port Harcourt chairman however, attributed the conflict to corruption that is ravaging the Nigerian society, and further condemned such thing in its entirety.
