Court Sends Two Women To 12 Years Imprisonment For Child Trafficking
A Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt have convictedand sentenced two young ladies identified as Chinaza Smart and Amarachi Ahukanna to 12 years imprisonment for conspiracy and child trafficking.
Chinaza and Amarachi who are between the ages of 21 and 28, were convicted for conspiring to sell two-year oldbaby boy, Daniel Smart with the sum of N400,000 to a woman simply identified as Precious from Anambra State now at large.
The Presiding Chief Magistrate, Felicitas Amanze, in her judgement, found the two persons guilty of the crime, which she described as heinous against an innocent child whose whereabouts were stilluncertain and unknown till date.
The court held that the 2nd Defendant Amarachi, who introduced the 1st Defendant Chinaza to the child trafficking business, lied to the court, that she did not convinced the first Defendant to sell her son, in order to raise money to travel to Dubai were she can earn N400,000 every month.
Amanze described the second Defendant as a chronic and unrepentant child trafficker, found the convicts guilty in count one charge and sentenced them five years’ imprisonment.
While convicting them on count two for seven years, Amanze ordered that the jail termshould run concurrently.
The state Head of Legal Office of the Federation of International Female Lawyers (FIDA), Esther Achor-Korienta, who spoke to newsmen outside the courtroom, said FIDA was happy with the judgement, warning that the organisation was all out to ensure child trafficking offences stop in the state.
