Oyigbo Community Disowns CDC
The people of Umusia in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State have said the community has not reconstituted its Community Development Committee (CDC) because the tenure of the existing one under the leadership of Hon John Nwachukwu has not elapsed.
To this end,the community has disowned the purported inauguration of a new CDC in the area, describing such as false and not in existence.
Speaking to journalists at Umusia community, last Wednesday, the Onyeisi Ala Umusia and the paramount ruler of the community, Chief Sunny Anyasor said the tenure of the CDC members has not elapsed,saying that as the paramount ruler, he has the right in concert with the elders to dissolve the committee, if their tenure had elapsed or they are found wanting.
According to him,there was no time this year or even 2021 that election of has been held in Umusia community, describing the purported election of one Sunday Nwoko as false and laughable.
“Let me notify the general public, especially the Rivers State Government through the commissioner for chieftaincy and community affairs, the chairman of Oyigbo Local Government Council, oil companies operating in the area, Nigeria Police Force, other security agencies and recognised institutions to disregard the purported radio and newspaper publication by one Mr Kelechi Nwakanma and the self-imposed Eze, who is known as Sir Sunday Ojijiagwo with regard to election of officials in Umusia Community in Oyigbo, Oyigbo LGA as baseless, illegal”.
In their respective speeches, the Oyigbo Community Chairman, Chief Samuel Nwankwo; Chief Samson Nwachukwu; and Palace Secretary, Eze Oha Oyigbo, Chief Precious Enweruka, described such publication as unfounded and the handiwork of miscreants.
According to them, “OyigboAsa has only one government recognised traditional ruler, Eze Mike Nwaji, the Eze Oha Oyigbo, there are two sub-clans under Oyigbo Asa: Umualake and Umusia; which is under the control of Eze Oha. The Umusia community has existing recognised leaders; Chief Sunny Anyasor as the Oyeisi Ala Umusia, and Hon Ndubueze Nwachukwu as the community chairman”.
They averred that Chief Sunday Nwoko has no authority whatsoever to hold any election in Umusia community without the consent of the Oyigbo monarch and traditional council of chiefs,saying that anybody dealing with such individual was doing so at his/her own risk.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
