Expert Advocates Healthy Hygiene, Clean Environment
A Consultant Family Physician, Dr Toke Oke, has stressed the importance of maintaining healthy hygiene and keeping the environment clean,
Oke, at a briefing organised by This Present House, said healthy hygiene and a clean environment were important in overcoming disease outbreaks.
She said, “Maintaining healthy hygiene will not only apply to COVID-19, but it will also apply to other infections. As we know, COVID-19 is caused by a virus, we have many other viruses and from time, we have seen that to prevent the transmission of these viruses, people are being encouraged to do simple things like washing of hands, cleaning surfaces and wearing of the facemask which prevents the transmission of the virus to other people.
“Indeed, a clean environment is not just for COVID-19, but a lot of other infectious diseases. This way, people will not be able to come in contact with dirt surfaces. With soap, detergent and bleach, majority of viruses including the COVID-19 can be killed.”
The expert added that healthy hygiene and a clean environment had helped in the fight against COVID-19.
A pastor in the church, Dele Balogun, said the church had also been in the forefront of the fight against drug and stance abuse among the youths.
“This Present Church is an expression of House of Freedom which has several initiatives campaigning against substance and hard drug abuse. We live in a metropolitan part of Lagos, which is the Lekki environment, and there has been a surge in the abuse of substances in recent times.
“For obvious reasons, people are going through a lot and many times they want to drown their sorrows by sort of taking these substances. We as a body, we felt the need to go out and in love reach out to those who are addicted to these habits,” he said.
The resident pastor of the church, Jude Nwoko, said the briefing was organised to review the activities of the church which included the Keep Lekki Clean campaign as well as the sensitisation on drug abuse.
