‘Coaching Home-Based Eagles Is Not A Risk’
Austin Eguaveon says leading the home based Super Eagles out for the friendly against Mexico is a challenge for him, but not a risk.
Eguaveon who is the technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation will be on the bench when Nigeria take on the Mexicans in United States later next month, due to the absence of Joseph Yobo.
Eguaveon last trained the national team when he was appointed as the head coach of the under-23 football team in August 2010, but resigned after failing to secure the Olympic tickets.
Speaking on his return to the dug out, the former Super Eagles right back insisted that it wasn’t a risk to accept the challenge.
“It’s a not a risk, I’m the head of technical department, so if there is no coach in place, it’s my duty to step. And if your employers give you directives, you can’t say no,” he said.
Meanwhile, Austin Eguaveon has dropped five players from the 25-man squad and the 23 players are expected to leave Nigeria for United States next week.
