Groups Sue For Peace, Sustainable Development In Ogoniland
Stakeholders at the Emergency Summit on Leadership and Security in Ogoniland, organised by a Non-Governmental Organisation, under the auspices of United MOSOP Forum, at the All Saints Anglican Cathedral, Bori, Ogoni Diocese, have urged Ogonis to work in unity to promote peace and sustainable development in Ogoniland.
The stakeholders in a unanimous decision at the end of the summit said the objectives of the Ogoni struggle as embedded in the Ogoni Bill of Rights, can only be achieved when Ogonis operate in one accord and resist external infiltrations that undermines the collective interest of the people.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the event, Chief Kpoobari Badom, commended the organisers of the summit and urged Ogonis to close ranks and work out their political and economic liberation and take their rightful position among the comity of ethnic nationalities in Nigeria.
In the lead paper presentation, Rear Admiral Ncholas Bakpo (Retired) stated that the time was ripe for Ogonis to address the leadership crisis in Ogoni, noting that the dearth of focused leadership was the bane of Ogoni development
In his welcome address , Chairman, United MOSOP Forum , Augustine Dinebari Kpuinen, said the Summit was a platform to enable Ogonis discuss their common problems of insecurity, leadership and underdevelopment .
He emphasised the need for an Ogoni State and for Ogoni resources to be used to develop Ogoniland, pointing out that Ogonis will no longer sit back and play the second fiddle in the affairs of the Nigerian state.
Also speaking a foremost Ogoni patriot, and one of the organsers of the summit, Dr Leesi Gborogosi, thanked the stakeholders for their concern for the development of Ogoni.
