Sports Minister Ratifies Okowa-Led AFN
Sports Minister, Sunday Dare, has pronounced the newly elected board of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, led by Tonobok Okowa as the authentic board empowered to govern the Sports of Athletics in Nigeria after the inauguration of the board in Abuja last Tuesday.
Dare, speaking in a chat gathered by Tidesports source, stressed that the new board marked the dawn of a new era in Athletics in Nigeria and emphasised that the board was the only board recognised by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
He also added, for the avoidance of doubt that, no Sports Federation in Nigeria is autonomous.
“We begin today a new trajectory for Athletics to see development in our country and this new seed of hope will germinate from today to replace some of the badly sown seeds in the years gone by. You’re the legitimate governing body for the sports of track and field in Nigeria duly elected by the Congress of the AFN and recognised by the Federal Government of Nigeria. For the avoidance of doubt, no sports Federation is autono-mous,” he said.
