Monarch Warns Against Killings, Insecurity
A traditional ruler in the state, King Leslie N. Eke, has advised the Federal Government to do the needful by providing lasting solution to the nagging high rate of insecurity in the country.
The Eze Gbakagbaka made the call while briefing newsmen yesterday at his palace in Woji in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Eke said the strange situation where people descend on fellow humans and kill them without any reason was barbaric.
The Eze Oha Evo III, argued that it was the constitutional duty of any government to protect the lives and property of its citizens.
“ If the killings in the country continue, who will those in power govern? They should fashion out ways to ensure that insecurity and killings in the country stopped”, he said.
The Monarch who is also the General Secretary, Association of Niger Delta Monarchs of Nigeria (ANDMON), expressed regrets that people now live in fear, thereby, compromising in security related matters.
According to the Nyerisi Eli Woji, every life of an average Nigerian should be held at high esteem and must be seen as a national asset that requires a water-tight security.
“Imagine the way the Federal Government protects the oil installations, any criminal attempt in such areas are always meted with heavy fire. Why can’t they use such might and strength to secure the people’s lives”, he said.
About the recent attacks on military and paramilitary check points in the State, the monarch said that it was the handiwork of those he described as enemies of the state.
Eke explained that Governor Nyesom Wike had put enough efforts to provide a round -the- clock security for all in the state, and added that the Governor’s efforts must not be sabotaged.
“Those who are merchandise of evil should leave Rivers State. Our dear Governor Wike has done his best in terms of security. People must support him in that light”, he said.
He also called on all traditional rulers in the state to rise up to the occasion and ensure that their various communities are not nests for criminal activities.
