Less Privileged Seek More Govt, NGOs’ Support
Septuagenarians at the Port-Harcourt Home for the Elderly and children at the Port-Harcourt Children’s Home in the State, and the nation are calling on government, kind- hearted individuals and organisations to use the Easter season to provide better health care system for the less preveiledged.
They made the call when members of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) Berthing Committee, Rivers Port and Shipping Trade Group, donated food stuff and toiletries to the homes and made their Easter celebrations worthwhile.
Matron of the Port- Harcourt Home for the Elderly, Rev. Sister Mary-Jane Ralpheal while thanking the groups for the donations said a medical outreach should be carried out to reduce health related issues amongst the old men and women in the facility.
Also speaking, representative of the Port- Harcourt Children’s Home, Ibinabo Braide said the children will have smiles on their faces as they celebrate the Easter season with the food stuff and toiletries donated to them.
She said the children however need medical attention and be in school while the older ones amongst them require vocational skills to lead meaningful lives.
On his part, Chai-rman,Welfare Committee, Nigerian Ports Authority Berthing Committee, Rivers Port and Shipping Trade Group, Zittas Julfa said the event which is done annually, is predicated on the need to give hope and joy to the vulnerable in the society especially during the festive season.
Zittas Julfa who said the less preveiledged deserve unconditional love and care, called on the State Government to pay more attention to the health of Senior Citizens at the Elderly Home and children at the special homes to make their lives worthwhile.
