CSS, Olanada Wins UNICEF Quiz Competition
Community Secondary School, Olanada, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area has won the maiden edition of the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) Risk Communication Quiz Competition.
The maiden edition of the competition was organised by UNICEF in conjunction with the State Government for 20 schools in both Port Harcourt City and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas.
Also declared winners are Community Secondary School, Oroworukwo for second position and Pabod Model Secondary School, Port Harcourt which came third position.
UNICEF Desk Officer in the State Universal Basic Education Board (RSUBEB), Mr Tonjo Harry said the competition was to improve the communication skills of the students in all areas of human endeavour.
Harry said the competition was also aimed at making the participants excel in various aspects of risk communication with a view to making them become good leaders in the society.
Also speaking, the representative of the chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Mrs Timo urged the students to be serious with their academic activities to enable them achieve their desired goals in life.
Flora Timo who is the Director, Special Project, RSUBEB also commended UNICEF for the competition.
Also speaking, the state Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr Young Ayo Tamuno said the event was to improve the skills of the students in the areas of communication.
He said by so doing, many of the students would build self confidence that will enable them become good citizens of the State.
He also advised the participants to take their studies seriously and avoid those things that will bring shame to their families.
