Man Jailed For Vandalising PHED Facilities
A Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt, presided over by Chinwe Nsirim has convicted a 35 year old man, Etim Offiong, for vandalising facilities belonging to Port Harcourt Electricity Company (PHED).
The said Etim Offiong was arrested inside PHED substation at Mbiama by Ernest Ikoli Street, Old GRA, Port Harcourt on the 8th of November, 2020 while on the act of vandalising the four core armored cables of 500kva transformer belonging to PHED
The case with charge no PMC/ 204C/2020 between the Commissioner of Police vs Etim Offiong (35) brought before a Magistrate court presided over by Chinwe Nsirim ,after due hearing, convicted the accused for a one year jail term commencing from the date of his arrest.
The accused person also pleaded guilty to an amended one count charge, which stated that, Etim Offiong ‘m’ and others at large engaged in conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace by trying to illegally disconnect armored cables of a transformer belonging to PHED PLC, an offence punishable under Section 249(d) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 vol 11 laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999.
