Varsity To Sanction Lecturers, Students Over Sexual Harassment, Cultism
The Management of Pamo University of Medical Sciences Port Harcourt has threatened severe disciplinary action against any of its lecturer and student who indulges in sexual harassment and cultism.
Pro Chancellor of the university, Dr Peter Odili who said this at the orientation programme for 2020/2021 session of students also warned the students on acts that could tarnish the image of the university.
He said the institution had zero tolerance for acts such as; sorting, cultism, examination malpractice, disrespect for elders as well as sexual harassment, adding, that anyone found committing such acts will be sent out of the university.
Odili who is a former Governor of the State also called on students of the State in the institution to thank Governor Wike for making it possible for them to be on scholarship.
Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Michael F.E Diejomaoh said the university had attained accreditation from the National University Commission (NUC) for all its degree programmes.
Diejomaoh said professional bodies such as; the Medical/ Laboratory Science of Nigeria, Nursing/ Midwifery Council of Nigeria as well as the Medical/ Dental Council of Nigeria had also recognised all courses offered by the university.
Speaking on the topic: “Know your university history”, Barrister Walter Imoedemhe said the university was built on the principle of efficiency and effectiveness,
“The university was built with the zeal to bring about a new way of knowledge and attitude to save lives”.
He urged the students to maintain a high standard of good behavior.
Speaking on the topic: “Town and Gown”, the Director Academic Planning of the university, Professor Ngozi Ordu said Pamo University is already contributing towards the development of its host communities.
According to her, the university is already impacting positively on the health care delivery system of its host communities.
He also urged the students to be proud of gaining admission into the university.
A cross section of the students who also spoke, said they were proud to be associated with the university.
They also pledged to abide by all the rules governing the institution.
