PDP Challenges Buhari To Account For Missing $1bn Arms Fund
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described as shameful that President Muhammadu Buhari was presiding over a security architecture where funds provided by his Presidency for purchase of arms have vanished into thin air while the citizens and gallant troops in the frontlines are left at the mercy of terrorists and insurgents.
This is just as it pointedly said that while it was common knowledge that the Buhari administration was into treasury looting, the party, however, asserted that stealing money meant for purchase of arms to protect the people was an unpardonable sacrilege.
The PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, yesterday, noted that the uncontradicted revelation of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno, that the $1billion drawn from the Excess Crude Account (national treasury) under the claims of purchase of arms to fight terrorism, can still not be traced leaves no one in doubt that the Buhari Presidency has become a parlour of corruption for fraudsters, criminal cabals and treasury looters, who have been pillaging the national coffers under executive cover.
It specifically noted that the fresh revelation by the Monguno only goes to further validate the anxieties in the public space that the money, which was in 2017 sneaked out from the national coffers without appropriation, has since been diverted to private purses of corrupt APC leaders and the criminal cabal in the Buhari Presidency.
“The PDP insists that President Buhari, as the commander-in-chief, must take the full responsibility of explaining the whereabouts of the money as the buck stops only on his table”, the statement noted.
