80 Players Set For Gov Abdulrazaq Chess Open
No fewer than 80 players have registered for the second edition of Governor Abdul Rahman AbdulRazaq Open Chess Competition tagged “Governor’s Challenge” Season 2.
Head of Media of the Kwara Chess Association, Toyin Saheed, told newsmen on Monday in Ilorin that the competition was billed to hold between Friday and Sunday at Offa Grammar School.
Tidesports spurce gathered that the competition was being organised by the Kwara Chess Association in collaboration with the State Sports Council.
The tournament, according to the association’s Chairman, Rasheed Aiyelabegan, who also spoke with newsmen, is expected to feature over 150 players from across the state’s 16 local government areas.
“Big prizes are available for the winners, and this chess tournament is targeted at fishing out the young talents at the grassroots,” he said.
The competition is billed to have Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as its special guest of honour, the Olofa of Offa, Muftau Gbadamosi Esuwoye ll, will be the chief host.
