Rivers Wrestling Boss Okays Champion Of Champions Competition
Head Coach of the Rivers State Wrestling Association, Eli. Oyonomunude, says the recently concluded Wrestling Competition tagged”Champion of Champions” organised by Baraza Multi- purpose co-operative society limited in Bayelsa State was standard.
Oyonomunede said this during an exclusive interview with Tidesports yesterday, in Port Harcourt.
According to him, the competition which was used as a trial to select athletes that would represent the country in the forth coming 2021 Olympics expected to hold in Tokyo was up to the expected standard.
“ The technical, facilities and organising was okay, athletes displayed good level of discipline and all COVID -19 guidelines were strictly followed, “ Oyonomunede said.
He praised the Rivers wrestlers, who took part in the competition for their good performance, saying that among the five athletes invited for the competition four took part in the trials and won four medals at the competition.
“The Athletes won one gold two silver and a bronze medal at the competition. We now wait for an invite from the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) for any of the athletes selected to National camp for further preparations, though, the NWF is still compiling the list of names to be invited,”the coach added.
Mercy Adekouroye 53kg won Gold Medal, Progress Benson 97kg Silver Medal, Amos Assizecourt 74kg Silver Medal, and FisayoKolawole 65kg won bronze Medal respectively.
