Abia Set To Train Teachers

The Commissioner for Education, Abia State, Dr Kanelechi Nwangwa, says plans are underway to train teachers to enhance their productivity.
Nwangwa told newsmen in Umuahia at the weekend that the programme would provide an avenue for teachers to be equipped with modern teaching techniques for efficient delivery.
He said the government entered into partnership with some Australian educators to conduct regular trainings for teachers in the state.
Nwangwa said the government was committed to evolving and implementing policies that would enable it achieve its goal of improving the standard of education in Abia.
He said that Abia government would not relent in clamping down on substandard schools, stressing that “psychomotor and cognitive education must be provided for Abia children.”
The commissioner said that it was disheartening to note that most of the schools that were shutdown lacked the necessary atmosphere for learning and capacity to provide standard education.
”We will soon bring in a taskforce team that will ensure compliance, as about 50 schools earmarked for closure are still operating.
”We will embark on massive supervision of schools across the state to ensure that the closed schools do not operate and the ones allowed to operate were up to standard,” he said.
