Illegal Parks: Task Force Suspends Three Personnel Over Misconduct
The Rivers State Task Force on Street Trading, Illegal Motor Parks and Markets says three of its personnel have been suspended on grounds of corruption.
The Task Force Coordinator, Bright Amaewhule, disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.
Amaewhule said the three officials were suspended for aiding and loading of commercial buses and taxis at restricted locations in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
He used the opportunity to call on some executive members of the Rumuokoro units of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to stop operation over their alleged involvement in illegality.
According to him, “We said that nobody carries any passenger again from Rumuokoro roundabout to Choba. You must take your passengers straight to the park and then you must offload in the park.
”We also said that if you are coming from Choba axis. You must not pass the park to offload your passengers because passing the park to offload your passengers towards the roundabout is what causes the hold up around the roundabout.
”I have sighted my taskforce members, those working at the Rumuokoro axis about five of them in the presence of the leader of that zone allowing the loading and offloading of passengers at that same point.
Consequently, the following persons, three of them in Rumuoko zone have been suspended until further notice,” Amaewhule stated.
While admitting reports of compromise against some of his men at some locations across the state, he assured that offenders will be adequately punished accordingly.
”This is a clear warning to every taskforce member. We know that every day is for the thief and one day for the owner of the house. So I have been sounding several warnings.
