DPR To Clamp Down On Unregistered Filling Stations
In its bid to properly regulate the operations of the downstream sector of the petroleum industry, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has said that it would clamp down on all unregistered filling stations in Rivers State.
Zonal Operation Controller of DPR in Rivers State, Bassey Nkanga, disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt at the weekend.
He said the move was to check the activities of some unregistered filling station operators who adulterate their products and put the lives of users in danger.
He advised kerosene consumers to buy the product from registered filling stations to avoid the risk of getting adulterated products.
The zonal controller restated the commitment of DPR towards effective regulation of the petroleum industry, saying all filling stations involved in the sales of adulterated products would be sanctioned appropriately.
He also disclosed that the faceoff between the Independent Petroleum Marketers and management of the Port Harcourt Refining Company has been resolved as marketers are now lifting petroleum products at PPMC depot.
Meanwhile, the association of Surface Tank Oil and Gas Retailers has called on all those involved in surface tank oil and gas retailing bussines to register with the body as effective licensed operators.
Chairperson of the Rivers State chapter of the association, Hon Patience Urge, made the call while speaking with The Tide in her office in Port Harcourt during the weekend.
Uche said the association was licensed by the DPR to serve as the umbrella body of all operators of the surface tank oil and gas retailing.
She further disclosed that the objective of the association was to ensure the active participation of the people in the rural areas in the oil and gas industry, and called on the people of the Niger Delta to take advantage of the opportunities.
