RSG Warns Telecoms Operators
The Rivers State Government has warned telecommunications operators in the state, who evade formal registration of their telecommunication masts with the Ministry of Urban Development and Physical Planning, thereby denying government of her statutory revenue receipts to do the needful by registering their masts as required by law.
A statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development and Physical Planning, Sir Chidi Adiele, said statutory non-registration of telecoms facilities was unlawful and inimical to the economic well-being of the state, as such statutorily unwise as it deprives the state government of her rightful revenue drive.
According to the statement, the Ministry has set-up a monitoring committee to identify such illegal installations that are operating in contravention of the physical planning policies of the state.
The state further advised all operators of such illegal telecommunication network ,masts to contact the Ministry of Urban Development and Physical Planning, 7th Floor, Block B, State Secretariat complex within 14 days and regularise the status of their masts or face unpleasant consequences.
The statement, therefore appealed to the operators of telecommunication network masts hoisted on high-rise buildings and high-land areas to comply with safety regulations by installing “Red Fire Flies of Aviation warning” because of their devices to guide helicopters and low-flying aircraft, especially at night.
