Traffic Congestion Returns To PH Roads After Easter Festivities
Following the end of Easter holidays and resumption of academic and commercial activities in Rivers State, the usual traffic congestion has returned on Port Harcourt roads.
The Tide reports that during the hoilda period, the roads of Port Harcourt experienced free flow of traffic, specially at strategic areas like Garrison, Rumuokoro, GRA junction, Rumuola and Agip junction due to exodus of people out of the city.
Our correspondent who visited some motor parks observed that influx of commuters was on the increase.
Speaking to The Tide, a driver who plies Ahoada- Rumuokoro route, Kayode Olu, said he had more passengers from Ahoada to Port Harcourt than from Port Harcourt to Ahoada as the Easter holidays had ended last Monday.
He said the inflow of people into Port Harcourt had occasioned a slight hike in transport fare from the usual N300 to N400 saying the fare may soon come down before today, end at coming back to Port Harcourt must have lessened. A commuter, Mrs Adunwo Elendu, lamented the hike in transport fare, saying it was uncalled for.
Mr. Akanu Ibe, a motorist, noted that the road traffic congestion at Garrison has returned since yesterday, as many people have returned to Port Harcourt after the Easter holidays.
He appealed to the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike to construct a flyover at the Garrison junction to decongest traffic in the area.
At Abali Park, Mile One, Diobu, our correspondent reports that the park was empty because many vehicles had gone to scamper for passengers who are coming into the city after the Easter holidays.
