Killings: Ogoni Leaders Issue 14-Day Ultimatum To Criminal Gangs

Worried by the upsurge in cult related killings in Ogoni land, leaders of the area have issued a 14-day ultimatum to criminal gangs to surrender their arms or face severe punishment.
This is as the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), umbrella body of the Ogonis said over 63 deaths arising from cult wars in the area have been recorded in the last two months.
The ultimatum was contained in a communique issued by the Ogoni leaders at the end of a multi- stakeholders meeting held in Sakpenwa, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State last Monday; just as the Ogoni leaders said that at the expiration of the ultimatum, anyone who does not comply with the resolution would be treated like a criminal.
The communique, which was read by former MOSOP President, Barr. Ledum Mitee condemned the spate of killings there and urged the gangs terrorising Ogoni communities to endeavor to turn in their guns and embrace peace.
The communique reads: “We express profound sadness over and wholeheartedly condemn the spate of killings, cases of cult wars and other criminal activities in parts of Ogoni which has created a deep sense of insecurity in our land.
“We hereby warn all those involved to put an end to such activities forthwith and to surrender their arms and all instruments of violence and subject themselves to traditional oaths in their respective communities within 14 days.
“At the expiration of the 14 days, any person who fails to abide by the decision should be declared as an enemy of the people and treated as such.
“We also resolved that traditional and community leaders, including youth leaders who harbour these criminals will not only be deposed but treated as accomplices,” Mitee said.
In his remarks, convener of the meeting and President, Supreme Council of Ogoni Traditional Rulers, HRM Godwin Giniwa challenged Ogoni youths to shun all forms of criminal activities.
Giniwa who is also the King of Tai Kingdom said the killings in Ogoni were unnecessary, pointing out that the security situation in the area has never been this bad.

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.
This commendation was contained in a press release made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt.
According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style. She urged civil servants across the state to remain supportive of the governor’s administration in order to sustain good governance and effective public service delivery.
Speaking on behalf of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, Dr. Brown congratulated Governor Fubara on the occasion of his 51st birthday, describing him as “a Governor who leads by serving.”
She further praised the governor’s service-driven and people-centred leadership approach, noting that it has significantly contributed to institutional stability and improved efficiency within the state’s public service. Special appreciation was expressed for the approval of a befitting accommodation complex for Permanent Secretaries, which she said reflects the governor’s commitment to staff welfare and enhanced productivity.
As part of activities to mark the governor’s birthday, the Body of Permanent Secretaries announced the sponsorship of 329 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students across the state.
A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.

The Body of Permanent Secretaries wished Governor Fubara continued good health, divine wisdom, and greater accomplishments in his service to the people of Rivers State.

Allegation of Disrespect to President Tinubu Unfounded — Rivers Government
