RSUBEB Boss Stresses Importance Of Inter-House Sports
The Chairman of Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board (RSUBEB), Ven (Dr.) Fyneface Aka says school sports competition is one important means of discovering young talents in sports in the country.
According to him, this is the first time the school has organised inter-house sports competition after 30 years, saying that it is interesting to see pupils doing sports.
Aka, who was represented by Desk Officer, N-TECH, of RSUBEB, James Iloga said this in his opening speech as the chairman of occassion at the inter-house sports competition of Port Harcourt Primary School, Old GRA.
Aka, commended the cordial relationship between the teachers and Parents Teachers Association (PTA) members, saying that it would bring good development in the school.
In her welcome address the Head Teacher of the School, Mrs Dumeza Lennards said the theme of this year’s Inter house Sports Competition is”Striving into a Greater Future”.
She explained that Sports is an essential part of the school curriculum, adding that it provides for the physical well-being of the pupils.
“We don’t only raise scientist and artists, but also athletes, in the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and the Williams sisters which is in line with our mission and vision.
Building a total society where all the fields of knowledge are balanced”, Lennards said.
She further thanked all those that made the event a success, most especially the games Master and Mistress in the school.
Speaking, the chairman of PTA, Captain Patrick Ogbogbo, also said that sports competitions are important part of education that build destiny and checkmate the mental alertness in every child.
“All work but no play makes Jack a dull boy.
Inter-house sports competition makes children to socialize and have straight physical wellbeing, it is a way for them to increase their destiny” Ogbogbo said
Earlier, a former pupil of the school and patroness of Yellow House, Mrs Ibinabo Ogolo appealed to state governments, individuals, corporate bodies and companies to help in development of sporting activities by providing sports equipment to schools.
She noted that in her primary days at the school in the 70’s there were a lot of sporting equipment in the school.
“If the sporting equipment were provided, grassroot sports development would be rapid” Ogolo said.
At the end of the competition, Mr Angus Birabebe Green House emerged winner with 206 points, Mrs Lucy Agbaro, Red House came second with 205, as Capt. Patrick Ogbogbo, Blue and Mrs Ibinabo Ogolo, Yellow House came third and fourth position with 183 and 163 points respectively.
