Feb 23 Polls: Rivers Communities Condemn Military
The Forum of Community Development Committees has condemned the military invasion of Rivers State during the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections in Rivers State.
The Forum which said this in Port Harcourt said that the involvement of the military in the elections had created a sense of general insecurity in the state.
It stressed the need for men of the military to confine their activities to the barrack instead of dabbling into politics.
“We therefore wish to remind military men that their constitutional duty is to protect the citizens not to humiliate them.
“We also wish to inform these desperate politicians who thought that they can have their way by all means to stop all their acts because community leaders in Rivers State no longer fold their hands and watch these unlawful acts.”
“We are not fighting war in Rivers State and Rivers State is not a Boko Haram zone.”
The forum which made up of over 2,000 communities said that it would not only resist any attempt to intimidate voters during the forth-coming Governorship elections but will mobilise the people to vote for Governor Nyesom Wike.
Earlier, the Coordinator-General, United Community Development Communities (UCDC) Rivers State, Mr John Onwubualili said that the action of the military was not only barbaric, but unconstitutional.
He urged its members to remain focused.
