TETFund Rejects 60 Projects In Varsities, Others
The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETF) has condemned the standard of 60 ongoing infrastructural projects in public universities, polytechnics and colleges of education across the country.
The TETFund Executive Secretary, Dr Bichi Baffa, said in a statement last Saturday that the Federal Government injected N133.8billion as intervention fund into public higher institutions between January and December last year.
Baffa said the fund carried out 226 infrastructural projects in tertiary institutions in 2018 but completed 189 of them.
However, the secretary said the fund discovered that 60 projects did not meet the required standards.
He said, “One of the core mandates of the fund is to support beneficiary institutions with funding for physical infrastructure for teaching and learning.
“In 2018, we granted approval for 226 new projects in universities, polytechnics and colleges of education. A total of 189 physical infrastructure projects have been completed while 112 are at different levels of completion.
“We have inspected and monitored 361 project sites across the country; 301 were found satisfactory and the disbursements of subsequent tranches were effected, while 60 projects were queried as a result of some infractions and the institutions were directed to address the infractions before such projects are cleared for subsequent disbursements.”
