LG Boss Warns Against Indiscriminate Refuse Disposal
Chairman, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr Michael Tidi, has warned residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the Warri metropolis.
Speaking with the newsmen in Warri, Tidi said the Council would no longer tolerate such an unwholesome attitude in 2019.
According to him, it costs the council huge sum to evacuate those waste generated and recklessly abandoned by the people to the approved dump sites.
He explained that it was also unhealthy to the people and the environment.
Tidi advised residents to patronise the services of the Private Sector Participants (PSP) to evacuate their waste.
“Today people dump their waste with reckless abandon and we will no longer tolerate it.
“If we continue to dump our waste indiscriminately, we will all suffer for it.
“The council is doing a lot to see how the waste generated by the people is evacuated as and when due.
“The town belongs to all of us, so I plead that they should engage the various PSPs in their environment to evacuate their waste, ‘’ he said.
Tidi said his administration would continue to provide the dividends of democracy to the people and urged them to remit their taxes and levies promptly.
“Some people still like to cut corners as always but like I keep sensitising them, we will not continue like this.
“We are going to enforce the law against anyone who wants to evade revenue,’’ he said.
The chairman said the introduction of scratch card to collect levies in the council had started paying off, saying that it had entrenched transparency and accountability in the system.
“Before now, money used to end in the hands of some individuals and tax agents but with the introduction of scratch card, payments are made into designated banks and the scratch card brought to our office for capturing,” Tidi said.
