MOSOP Leadership Crisis Deepens As Three Factions Emerge
The crisis rocking the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) has deepened, following the emergence of three factional leaderships for the movement.
The three factional leaders include the incumbent, Mr Legborsi Pyagbara, Mr Fegalo Nsuke and Bari Ara Kpalap.
The Tide learnt that both Mr Nsuke and Bari Ara Kpalap emerged in elections which took place at different locations in Ogoniland.
Mr Nsuke who spoke to The Tide in a telephone interview said that he was elected by delegates from various communities in the Kingdom across Ogoni at the MOSOP Freedom Centre, Bori.
He claimed that, he would not only takeover the leadership of the movement on January first 2019, but will be addressing the entire Ogonis on the fourth of January 2019.
Nsuke further claimed that the incumbent president of the movement, Legborsi Pyagbara was no longer incharge of the movement since November 2018 when he was suspended from office for allegedly refusing to quit office after completing his two tenures.
Meanwhile, the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) has described as a charade, the purported emergence of Mr. Fegalo Nsuke and Bari ara Kpalap as MOSOP Presidents.
President of the Movement, Legborsi Pyagbara, told The Tide in a telephone interview that the steering Committee of the Movement had already suspended election till August 2019.
Mr Pyagbara, who denied being suspended from the Presidency of the movement said MOSOP was intact; stressing that “only rebels will want to disobey the constitution of the movement with a view to destabilising it”.
Also Speaking Mr Bara Ara Kpalap another factional leader claimed that he was elected unopposed at the peace and freedom centre Bori.
He also told The Tide in a telephone interview that the steering committee did not have power to elongate the tenure MOSOP president stressing that Leyborsi Iyagbara tenure will end by 31st December 2018.
