Seedorf Not Worried Over Draw With Comoros
Cameroon coach, Clarence Seedorf has shrugged off his team’s disappointing 1-1 draw away to minnows Comoros in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday.
The Indomitable Lions, who had Dutch legend Seedorf in charge for his first match, needed a late equaliser from Stephane Bahoken to salvage a draw in Mitsamiouli.
Cameroon are the hosts for the tournament and will appear at the finals regardless of their performance in Group B, which they currently top on four points, ahead of Morocco, Malawi (three points each) and Comoros (one point).
Seedorf acknowledges that the Cameroonian public may take issue with the result, but he insists the team performed strongly and showed great ‘spirit’.
“I’m not disappointed because I know the team has given everything they have,” Seedorf said after the match.
“It was obviously difficult conditions. But the team spirit, the fighting spirit to try to escape with the victory was there.
“I do not think another team would come here to have an easy day. No, I am absolutely not disappointed, but happy with the spirit we have shown.
“It was certainly not our best game, but the second half was better, we had better chances, the players were patient.
“I finally got to know the players. This first step of this cycle has been very positive,” he concluded.
Cameroon will return to action in a month’s time when they face Malawi in a double-header.
