Residents, Commuters Bemoan Bad Roads In Oyigbo
Residents and commuters in Oyigbo axis of Rivers State have again lamented the deplorable state of roads in the area.
The people also decried the slow pace of work by the construction companies handling road projects in the area.
Speaking with The Tide in an exclusive interview in the area, last Wednesday, some road users said the rate of road traffic and accidents were caused by the bad state of the roads especially the Port Harcourt- Aba Expressway axis which they said had increased the level of economic hardship in the area
A trader and resident of Oyigbo, Mr Samuel Nwachukwu said the deplorable condition of the Port Harcourt -Aba Express road in Oyigbo had a negative effect on traders, explaining that traders could no longer meet their supply schedules with bulk buyers.
Nwachukwu said many traders returned their goods unsold from the popular Oil Mill Market in Port Harcourt, last Wednesday due to the delay in arriving the market on time from Aba and Oyigbo axis.
Another trader, Mrs Comfort Abel told The Tide that she had stopped going to Port Harcourt for her trading business due to much suffering and time wasted on Oyigbo road axis.
She said, apart from time wasted, transporters have also increased transport fares from Aba and Oyigbo to Port Harcourt because of the bad roads.
A bus driver plying Port Harcourt- Aba route through Oyigbo Express road, Effiong Mathew, said drivers decided to increase transport fares because of the poor condition of the road.
