Project Rivers Interest, Ake Tasks New Editorial Board
The General Manager of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, Mr. Vincent Ake has challenged members of the Editorial Board of The Tide Newspaper to protect and defend the interest of the government and people of the state at all times.
Ake gave the charge while inaugurating members of the new Editorial Board of the state-owned newspaper, last Monday, in Port Harcourt.
The general manager, who congratulated members firstly for getting the rare privilege of being among the ones chosen, said that he took notice of everyone’s ability and capacity before making the choice, adding that their membership of the board was purely on merit.
He further admonished them not to rest on their oars as anyone found wanting in the performance of their duties would be replaced.
“If lapses are found, there is space for replacement. If a person is not performing well in a certain position, that person will give way for a better hand,” he explained.
Ake reminded the board members that they were the voice of the newspaper, stressing that “as the voice of the newspaper, you must do good editorial commentaries that are in tandem with the hope and aspiraton of the government and people of Rivers State”
He also advised them to ensure that their Editorials convey government’s policies while projecting, protecting and defending the interests of the government and people of the state in particular, and the Niger Delta in general.
The general manager noted the political momentum generated by the upcoming 2019 general elections, and charged the board members to live up to their calling by doing the needful to promote the goals of the government.
Ake reminded the board members of the vision and dreams of the founding fathers of the state and the driving force of successive governments, saying that their contributions should enhance the legacy of the newspaper since its establishment in 1971.
