Anti-Smuggling: Customs Gets 30 Patrol Vehicles
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) last Monday received 30 additional Toyota Hilux Patrol vehicles from the Federal Government to rev its anti-smuggling campaign.
The Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs, Enforcement, Investigation and Inspection, Aminu Dangaladima, told newsman in Abuja.
Dangaladima said with the vehicles, the response time of the Service responses at the scene of any smuggling activity would be swift and decisive.
“On June 11, the Service received the first batch of 20 Toyota Hilux vehicles as part of the Federal Government support to curtail smuggling of prohibited items, especially rice.
“With this robust support coming from the Federal Government, NCS today is in a better position to deal decisively with the enemies of Nigeria’s security and economic prosperity,” Dangaladima said.
Reports say that the 30 vehicles received on Monday by the Service bring to 50 the total received so far.
The Deputy Comptroller-General urged officers that would be using these vehicles to make proper use of them to achieve the desired result.
He also appealed to the general public, especially the border community dwellers, to support the Service by providing useful information on smuggling activities around their communities.
On fighting smugglers on the sea, Dangaladima said the Service was collaborating with the Nigerian Navy and other agencies to achieve the desired results.
