Community Cries Out Over Erosion, Landslide Menace
The people of Rumuehileze Community, Elelenwo, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, have appealed to the state government to come to their aid following the incessant erosion and landslide being witnessed in the area.
A cross section of the people who spoke to The Tide attributed the situation to the on-going dualisation of the Elelenwo/Akpajo road by Julius Berger Nigeria Limited.
They also said the dualisation has led to the diversion of waste and rain waters from the Elelenwo/Akpajo road to the community.
A resident of the area, Mr Ambrose Okonkwo, said the situation has led to the destruction of houses and other property thereby forcing some people to evacuate from the community.
He said that timely intervention by the government will save the people from further loses of their property to erosion and landslide.
Meanwhile, motorists plying the Elelenwo/Rumuibekwe link road have cried out over the poor State of the road.
The Tide learnt that the two kilometers link road with a bridge was abandoned by the immediate past administration in the state.
A cross section of motorists told newsmen that the road which was meant to decongest the oil mill section of Aba road is now a death trap.
Mr. Chris Halliday, a resident of the area said many vehicles have broken down on the road, while criminals have taken advantage of the situation to unleash terror on the people.
Mr. Halliday used the occasion to call on the State Governor, Barr Ezenwo Nyesom Wike to come to the aide of the people by ensuring the completion of the road project.
