Obuah Assures On Clean, Healthy Environment
The Sole Administrator of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA), Bro. Felix Obuah says the task of keeping Port Harcourt, the state capital and its environs clean is not negotiable and must be achieved.
Obuah, who stated this shortly after monitoring major roads and streets in Port Harcourt between the hours of 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. yesterday regretted that some mischievous politicians and other residents were bent on defacing some areas of the city after service providers had finished their daily evacuation of refuse.
Obuah regretted that at New Airport Road (Aluu), by Obiri Ikwerre Roundabout to Port Harcourt International Airport, some mischievous persons had maliciously turned the area to an illegal refuse dump, an act mostly perpetrated at midnight.
The RIWAMA Sole Administrator had directed security agents to arrest anyone found dumping refuse at that spot or any other area not designated for refuse dump, noting that such actions were intended to deface the city and undermine the efforts of the Agency, in keeping the State clean and healthy.
Obuah said he also observed that event planners, night clubs and those doing business on the roads also contribute to the defacing of the streets and roads of Port Harcourt and its environs after service providers had finished their daily refuse evacuations, calling on them to desist from such act and join hands with the Agency to keep Port Harcourt and its environs clean.
The RIWAMA boss equally directed all service providers to up their game, and ensure that all streets and roads in Port Harcourt and its environs were kept clean 24 hours of the day.
According to him, opposition politicians who do not mean well for the growth of the State, and who are bent on tarnishing the image of the good administration of Governor Wike continuously engage in acts of sabotaging the efforts of the agency.
Assuring that the Agency would not relent in its avowed commitment, as it is working round the clock to keep Port Harcourt and its environs clean and healthy; Bro. Obuah announced the setting up of a Special Task Force to arrest and prosecute anyone found dumping refuse at unauthorized places and outside the refuse disposal hours of 6p.m. to 12 midnight.
