The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State, Alabo Francis Ada Ebenezer has warned that henceforth indiscriminate dumping of refuse on roads and streets of the communities is prohibited.
Alabo Ada Ebenezer gave the warning while swearing-in the caretaker committee members of the local government council’s in main hall at Ogu, last Monday.
According to him, cleanliness is next to Godliness and therefore all should form the habit of keeping the roads, streets and environment clean at all times.
He said that the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike gave priority to sanitation, and that he would key into his agenda by ensuring that indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the area is stopped.
The local government boss enjoined the people to get celephone bags to pack their household refuse and dispose them at the appropriate places inorder to avoid outbreak of diseases in the area.
Alabo Ada Ebenezer also advised chiefs and Community Development Committees to utilise the services of town criers to enlighten the people and warned that those disposing refuse on the roads would be arrested and prosecuted.
He charged the people to always clean their surroundings including the drainages and not to wait until the State sanitation days of every last Saturday of the month, to do so.
He also used the forum to warn those who formed the habit of vandalising utility poles, and cables to desist forthwith or have themselves to blame.
He said it was unfortunate that some persons in Ogu Community would deliberately jeopardise electricity supply to the community for their selfish interest, adding that the administration would not condone such habit of keeping the entire people of the community in darkness.
According to him, all law enforcement agencies have also been directed to ensure such unscrupulous elements were brought to book to face the full wrath of the law, and appealed for co-operation and support from all to take the local government to the next level.
