Egi Youth Honour LG Boss
Thousands of Egi youths
and women organisations including community chiefs and traditional rulers recently at Obite Civic Centre filed out to receive and honour the Caretkaer Committee Chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, Barrister Osi Olisah for his good performance and restoration of peace in the area.
The occasion which was put together by the Egi Youths Federation (EYF), witnessed the conferment of Eze – Udo (King of Peace) award on the Chairman apart from showering him with other gifts and praises by women associations.
Reacting to accolades bestowed on him, Barr. Olisah said “I dedicate this award to God and Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike who did not only appoint me but also gave me the free hand to perform the statutory duty of protecting lives and property in ONELGA”.
“At the beginning, it was difficult, all the men and women who were supposed to speak against those behind the crises ran away, out of fear but the real heroes of the peace restoration were the boys who volunteer to sacrifice their lives for others to live”, the chairman recalled.
Barr. Olisah, who went down memory lane, said that he survived three assassination attempts and a spiritually induced motor – accident in order to thwart the peace initiative, but God was on our side”.
He lamented that some people were benefitting from the crisis and hence, they made every effort for its continuity, saying that fear could be a great obstacle for people with good intentions.
According to the council boss, as elections draw nearer, people should search their conscience and ensure that only people with political will to serve were voted to power.
“You must be interested in who becomes your youth leader, family chief, community ruler, councillors and even the President. Time for aloofness is gone, if you are to enjoy your life and property”.
He paid glowing tributes to all the brave men of ONELGA who assisted the council to achieve the peace that is now in place, advising that people should be courageous enough to fight evil and demand their rights and accountability from their representatives.
