RSG Sets Up Loan Scheme For Civil Servants
The Rivers State Government has established a Special Revolving Loan Scheme to cater for the financial needs of indigent civil servants in the state.
The decision to set up the Special Revolving Loan Scheme for civil servants was taken at the State Executive Council meeting presided over by the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, last Wednesday.
Briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting, state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Barrister Emma Okah said that the loan scheme would be interest-free.
Okah added that the loans would be available to civil servants who were in need, adding that civil servants were not expected to provide collateral before they can access the loans.
According to him, the idea of the scheme was to ensure that civil servants with peculiar needs, but were unable to raise funds, receive the needed support.
Speaking further, the commissioner explained that the State Executive Council declared a state of emergency on the trading on major roads, which has negatively affected the environmental sanitation of Port Harcourt, the state capital, and its environs.
He announced that all street traders have been given an ultimatum of seven days to quit the roads, after which the state government would start a determined enforcement to clean up the metropolis.
The commissioner also announced the establishment of the National Festival Committee to organise NAFEST 2018 taking place in the state later in the year.
He also emphasised that the State Executive Council approved the setting up of the Water Board Committee.
