Rwanda’s FA President Dismisses Corruption Talk
President of the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA), Vincent Nzamwita has denied that he embezzled money belonging to the Federation.
Speaking to Tidesports source on Monday, Nzamiwta, who will be seeking re-election for another term in office, said although some of his executive members are pointing fingers at him, he is an open leader who has changed football in Rwanda.
The Federation Vice president Vedaste Kayiranga and FA lawyer Emmanuel Ndagijimana three days ago asked Nzamwita to explain the irregularities on the US$100,000 sent by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF).
Nzamwita was given an ultimatum to account by yesterday. The members said the FA President misused the funds, also failing to clear taxes due to the Rwanda Tax Authorities.
“I have not misappropriated any money, I sent a request to the federation Finance Manager to deposit US$20,000 on my personal account because it is the money which was promised by CAF as bonus for each president of the member federations. And that is what was done,” he explained.
Although Nzamwita is credited for achieving several aspects to change Rwanda Football including hosting the 2016 CHAN and signing several MOU’s with the Moroccan FA, Germany FA and also on-going construction of a modern hotel to help generate finances for the FA, many also think he has under scored in certain aspects like youth development programmes.
But Nzamwita thinks with the many relationships he has created with the new CAF and FIFA leadership and programmes laid down for the next four years, Rwanda Football will keep getting better. Rwanda is also preparing to bid to host the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
