Corporation Tasks Lagos Residents On Drain Stuffing
The Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC), has appealed to residents of Lagos to stop acts of road abuse and drain stuffing, saying, they are responsible for flooding and quick road degeneration.
The Special Adviser/Chief Executive Officer, LSPWC, Mr Ayotunde Sodeinde, made the appeal in an interview with newsmen in Lagos.
Sodeinde said that the State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, was passionate about infrastructure renewal and was massively funding construction and rehabilitation of roads and drainage projects across the state, adding that the corporation would soon begin massive road rehabilitation in Ikeja, the state capital.
He listed Adebayo Akande Road which links Billings Way to Kudirat Abiola Way in Ikeja, 7-Up Alausa Road, and Mobolaji Johnson Road, as some roads in the metropolis that were recently reconstructed to global standards.
Sodeinde said that the popular Allen Round About in Ikeja, up to under the bridge, would soon be reconstructed.
“In the last one year, we have been able to touch more than 620 roads, and we have done drainages as well.
“The governor, in his interest that Lagosians should move on very good roads, has directed that we move to Allen Round About, to begin reconstruction,’’ he said.
Sodeinde appealed to residents of Lagos to support government’s efforts by taking possession and caring for roads and drainage channels in their areas.
“The infrastructure belongs to Lagosians and they should ensure that they protect them from harm.
“A lot of roads abuse is going on, a lot of people operate mechanic workshops on roads, burn tyres on roads, throw dirt, bottles and all manner of refuse into drainage channels, blocking them.
“The blockade causes flooding and water overflow onto the roads.
“Some people even wash on the road, it is not good, all these habits are not good for asphalt,’’ he said.
The LSPWC boss added that all roads in the state were receiving equal attention.
