Stakeholder Tasks Firm On Employment Opportunities
Following the increasing rate of unemployment in the country, the management of Siat Nigeria limited has been charged to consider employment of more Rivers indigenes, particularly those from its immediate host communities
A stakeholder in the state, Chief Bobby Amadi, gave the charge while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt, Monday.
The stakeholders who reacted to the tree planting exercise carried out by the company lost Monday, said that the people meet more than tree planting, going by the rate of unemployment in the land.
Amadi, noted that employment of graduates and other certificated skilled people of the host communities would do a lot in terms of poverty era dictation.
The stakeholders, who is also the financial secretary of Onu Omopi, community development group in Omerelu, Ikwerre LGA and one of the host communities to SIAT, noted that, the tree planting was not out of place but that people needed jobs to enable them fend for their families.
According to him, if a massive employment was conducted for the host communities, it would go a long way in promoting peaceful co-existence between the company and its host communities.
He said that, until companies operating in the state begin to think in such direction, the expected peaceful environment may not be achieved.
The community leader, explained how the host communities to the firm enjoyed a level of peace when it was known as Risonpalm due to massive engagement of youths from the area.
He also pointed out that, there are some causal jobs the people from the area could do for the company, regretting that, the firm and other companies operating in the state use technical excuses to deny employment to the people.
But The Tide gathered that, the company had in recent times, employed some youths from its host communities, though, not on a large scale. Earlier, he had urged the youths to learn how to approach companies operating in their lands for something tangible, and not peanuts, saying that, by so doing the demands would get a better attention.
