NIS Cautions Officers Against Extortion
Comptroller of Immigration, Seme Border Mr Ibrahim Liman, has warned its officers against extortion of people arriving and departing the country through the border.
Liman gave the warning during an interview with newsmen in Seme, Badagry, Lagos State, recently.
He noted that the command had received several complaints about extortion at the border.
“Officers of the command have been warned about extortion of money from motorists and people arriving and departing from the country through the Seme border.
“We have received several complaints from the public about this particular matter and the Comptroller General, Muhammed Babandede is not happy about it.
“Our men have been warned about this, and the officers are complying. The service is also doing its best to sanitise the institution.
“Officers that don’t comply with the law will be dealt with ruthlessly because we wouldn’t accept any form of indiscipline from our officers,” he said.
He urged the public to report erring officers to the command.
“The public should report any form of extortion to the command and the case will be treated accordingly.
“We are also collaborating with other sister agencies to ensure that the institution is completely sanitised,” he said.
