Monarch Seeks Recognition Of Stool
A renowned traditional ruler in Rivers State, HRH Chief Daniel Okikere Ibani, the VI, has made a passionate appeal to the state government to recognise his stool and upgrade it to a 2nd class status.
Chief Okikere made the appeal in a chat with journalists when he led other chiefs of his community to present their matter to Mr Samuel Egbe-led panel on Review of Chieftaincy Institution at Obi Wali Conference Centre, in Port Harcourt.
Chief Okikere emphasised that the South Eastern State of Nigeria had recognised the Ibani stool when the people of the area were under Cross River State and was issued a certificate in that regard in 1975 under the regin of Chief Nelson, Ibani the 4th as a village head.
The Andoni-born traditional ruler further disclosed that when they came to Rivers State, the people of Iwoma in Asarama district wrote a letter to the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs in 1979 and solicited for the recognition of the Ibani stool during the military administration in Rivers State but failed to honour their request.
Chief Ibani who revealed that, he has been on the throne since after his installation as the Ibani the Vi on 24th December, 2012 appealed to the state government to recognise his stool and upgrade its status as well as classify other chiefs in his area as 3rd class.
He commended Governor Wike for mandating the panel to review the chieftaincy institution in the state, pointing out that, the idea would go a long way in promoting peace and development in the state.
He appealed to the panel not to politicise the system rather should be free and fair in handling the matters to avoid ruining the present administration.
Chief Okikere who noted that Governor Wike has performed creditably in the past two years of his leadership lauded him for his development strides across the state and prayed that God should give him the strength and wisdom to pilot the affairs of the state successfully.
He equally appealed to Rivers people to support his administration to succeed.
