Varsity Promises Students Enabling Environment
The Acting Head of
Department of Banking and Finance, Federal University, Otuoke, Dr Etumudan Asien, says the Department is working to create an enabling environment for pioneer students of the department.
Asien said this during a one-day orientation exercise organised for new students of the department on Thursday at the Skills Acquisition Centre of the University.
He urged the students to take their studies seriously, adding that “the road to academic excellence begins at this early stage’’.
Asien urged the students to cherish their admission and advised them to respect constituted authorities in the University.
He also told the students to work harmoniously with lecturers in the department.
Asien said that the university attached much importance to the sanity of examinations,.
He advised the students to avoid any action that would be inimical to their stay in the university.
The Head of Business Administration Department, Dr Falade-Obalade Adedapo, urged the students to shun any unruly behaviour that would affect their future.
The Head of Entrepreneurship Department, Dr Helen Opigo, commended the students for gaining admission into the university.
She urged them to make the best use of the admission they had been offered.
Opigo advised the students to make good use of the facilities in the university and urged them to obey the rules of the institution. The Head of Public Relations Unit, Ms Mercy Ekott, thanked the organisers of the Orientation exercise, adding that the event served as a mentoring platform for the new students.
The pioneer Banking and Finance students also staged a play on how to invest wisely. The play, which served as an enlightenment, equally entertained participants.

Education Commissioner Seeks media collaboration in Rivers
The River State Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor has called on media practitioners in Rivers State to deploy their various communication platforms toward promoting government programmes and policies aimed at achieving sustainable development in the education sector. Dr. Nwagor made the appeal when members of the Etche Ethnic Practicing Journalists (EEPJ) paid him a courtesy visit in Office in Port Harcourt. The Commissioner emphasized the strategic role of the media in shaping public perception, promoting government initiatives, and supporting policies capable of improving the quality of education and human capital development in the state.
