VC Okays RSUST, Shell’s Partnership
The Vice Chancellor, Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Port Harcourt, Prof Blessing S. Didia, has said that the partnership of the institution with Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) in courses line Marine Engineering and Offshore Technology would yield a better result.
He said this when the team paid a courtesy call on him last week in his office.
Didia who explained his desire to make the institution a world class, lauded SPDC over its efficiency in job creation.
According to him the programmes were also to compliment the efforts of the school towards technological and man-power development.
He further tasked the handlers of the Marine Engineering Department in the institution to see the successful installation of the equipment in the area in order to make room for a smooth take-off.
In his response, the leaders of the delegation, Prof Emmanuel Ekpeyong, said, RSUST was chosen for the training due to its leading role in Marine and Offshore Engineering in African.
He also noted that such was part of the Organisation’s Social Responsibility Service to the society.
According to him, the quest to proived the needed world-class equipment for the training of future leaders in marine and offshore engineering became a source of major concern for the organization, hence the reason for its immediate take-off in RSUST.
For successful installation of the equipment, he said the services of international and local experts would be required for a remarkable outcome.
While describing the institution as a centre of excellence in marine and offshore training, he lauded the Vice-Chancellor, Prof B. C. Didia over what he described as a job well done.
The River State Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor has called on media practitioners in Rivers State to deploy their various communication platforms toward promoting government programmes and policies aimed at achieving sustainable development in the education sector. Dr. Nwagor made the appeal when members of the Etche Ethnic Practicing Journalists (EEPJ) paid him a courtesy visit in Office in Port Harcourt. The Commissioner emphasized the strategic role of the media in shaping public perception, promoting government initiatives, and supporting policies capable of improving the quality of education and human capital development in the state. According to him, constructive media engagement remains essential in creating public awareness on educational reforms, students’ welfare, infrastructural improvements, and other interventions being implemented by the state government.
