Club Tasks Privileged Nigerians On ‘African Time’
Nigerians occupying
positions of trust have been charged to lead the campaign against the ‘African Time’ syndrome.
President General of the League of Character Clubs Nigeria (LCCN), Chief Christian Kokoriko, made the appeal yesterday in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
Kokoriko lamented that the issue of African time had been allowed to become part of African custom, stressing that until serious orientation or campaign against it was sustained, the negative impact of the notion would remain a major problem.
“African time is not a thing to be proud of, it is not even a minor issue, to me, it is a very serious negative issue that must be stopped and the only way is through campaign towards changing people’s orientation,” he said.
He regretted that instead of encouraging the notion, some top placed persons who should be exemplary, rather champion the problem.
“What do you think of a commissioner, local government chairman or someone occupying position in companies, attending function which most atimes organized by them one hour late.
“It is the height of indiscipline because your high position is not an excuse whatsoever for you to exhibit such irresponsible behavior when in the actual sense of it, such persons are expected to be exemplary,” he said.
According to the LCCN boss, in most occasions, invited guest were made to wait for hours before function commence because of African time syndrome.
He stressed the need for everybody especially schools at all levels to get involved as to charge the notion adding that time remains a crucial factor in the success of any human endeavour.
